Charlie Rotherham from Ainthorpe Primary School raises money in aid of Australia bush fires.

Charlie Rotherham, Year 6 student at Ainthorpe Primary School in Hull, part of the David Ross Education Trust, has successfully set up fundraising to help people and animals affected by the Australian bush fires.

Having seen the devastating scenes of the Australian bush fires, Charlie decided that he wanted to try and help out. He couldn’t believe the power of the fires and how many communities and animals had been affected.

With his Principal’s support, Charlie decided to make friendship bracelets in Australian colours. He also asked to hold a ‘non-uniform’ day to raise money. His fundraising target was £50, but Charlie’s initiative managed to raise an astonishing £428.20!

Students and staff at Ainthorpe Primary School, have also set up a knitting club where they are knitting pouches to help keep baby koalas warm.

Shane Davy, the Principal at Ainthorpe Primary School said, “One child’s idea is spreading across the world and I am so proud of Charlie and his amazing attitude. We never expected to raise so much money so I am humbled by support shown by our pupils and staff. It has really brought the school together.”
